- often working will earn you more than Centrelink but you still need to make sure before you take the job, extra hours or pay increase
Information
Working and your income will affect your Centrelink payments but it really depends in your situation. In general, if you work more than 30 hours a week you will not be eligible for Centrelink payments.
When your income changes
If the amount you earn goes down, you may be eligible for a payment while your income is low.
There are three main payments:
- JobSeeker Payment is for if you’re looking for work and you're 22 and over. It’s also for when you’re sick or injured and can’t do your usual work or study for a short time.
- Parenting Payment is if you’re the main carer for a young child or children.
- Youth Allowance for job seekers is for if you’re 16 to 21 and looking for work. It’s also for when you’re completing study or unable to work for a short time.
If you claim a payment, check if you can also get a Health Care Card.
