Past Events

A series of art exhibition events were created to raise awareness in relation to those that are experiencing homelessness and to share those experiences in a supportive and safe environment. The exhibition provides a non-judgmental way for artists to express what they have experienced without feeling the stigma often attached to the term “homeless”. All artists received 100% of sales from their art sold.

Our History

2019 – "I Am"

In August 2019, art displayed had been produced by young people who took part in Wombat Housing & Support Services art therapy sessions funded by the Awesome Foundation. Part of these workshops consisted of stencil art sessions run by Artist: ManOfDarkness from Blender Studios. Some independent artists are also included in this exhibition. All exhibited artworks have been created by artists who have experienced homelessness or are currently experiencing homelessness.  It is a non-judgemental way for people to express what they have experienced in a safe environment without feeling the stigma often attached to the term ‘homeless’.” Creating art in order to connect with the community to increase awareness & understanding.

2018 – "Our Story"

In August 2018, Wombat Housing and Support Services in collaboration with Lulu Cafe and Gallery in North Melbourne and social enterprise Open Canvas were proud to present “Our story” as part of Homelessness Week 2018, “End Homelessness Together”. Some of the art displayed was created by young people supported through Wombat’s Youth programs, who took part in our Life Skills Workshops series funded by the Lord Mayor’s Charitable foundation. Part of these workshops consisted of art therapy sessions, which provided the young people with creative opportunities for self-expression. The opening night was a huge success!
