Youth Support Program
Who the Youth Support Program is for:
• Young people aged 16 to 25 years and
• Homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless
What is provided:
• Support and assistance to:
» Develop skills for independent living
» Sort out concerns and problems
» Find housing
• Housing
» For up to 18 months
» For single people (who will share with one other young

» For young families
» All properties provided with household goods and bedding
» Properties are close to public transport
» Rent is set at 25% of income ($15 if you’re under 18)
What is the purpose:
The program is designed to develop the skills needed by young people to manage independent living in private rental, in public housing or with their families
Who is eligible:
• Young people aged 16 to 25 years
• Families under 21 years
• Homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless
• Willing to participate in the support program
• Need to develop living skills
• In receipt of an independent income
• Able to manage daily living arrangements
• Links to the West
What it involves:
• Weekly meetings with the support worker
• Regular phone contact with the support worker
• Regular meetings with the support workers and the other
person in the house
• A commitment to participation in the program
• Sharing with another young person from the program
How to get into the program:
• Contact the Access Point - Yarra Housing
• Complete a referral form with the support worker to determine eligibility
• Eligible people are matched to the vacancy and the existing tenant if there is one
• A meeting between the existing tenant to determine compatibility
• Signing of a support agreement
• Beginning the program and moving into the property
