Services for Single Adults
Community Support Program
Wombat’s Community Support Program aims to work with residents to develop independent living skills and reduce social isolation by providing recreational, social and educational opportunities to single adults residing in five separate rooming/community housing across the western region of Melbourne.
In partnership with Women’s Housing the CSP program was established in 2009. Over that time we have secured several funding opportunities through local council grants and philanthropic trusts to improve and expand our program. An example of some of CSP’s activities/outings have been;
- Fishing excursions, Art Therapy, Art and Craft Group, Gardening Program
- Photography skills courses
- Tenants have been involved in two exhibitions – Photography and Art Therapy
- Pampering Day /Hairdressing for the female rooming house residents
- Light exercise classes, nutrition and health talks
- Cooking programs and social lunches
- Outings to Movies, Museum, Exhibitions, Zoo, Aquarium, International Garden Show
- Theatre – “Wicked” and “Hairspray”
- Opp Shopping, Providing food from donations from Second Bite
- Development and production of a quarterly newsletter
The program works with-in a community development framework to address issues of social isolation by co-ordinating support services operating within the rooming houses. The tenants assist with the planning of activities through survey, house meetings and general discussions. The program provides information to residents on local community based health, welfare and community services and advocates on their behalf for access to these services. The program also coordinates and provides individual case management and service linkage, links to recreation, social and educational programs as well as providing in-house activities and( free) outings for the residents. The overall aim is to sustain tenancies by improving the lifestyles and environment of the residents of these five rooming/community houses.
