Public Tenant Group Support

Wombat provides support to public tenants to:

(1) participate in local communities by supporting the establishment of new tenant groups; and,

(2) participate in local and regional networks and initiatives.

SHASP in the West

Wombat provides a support and advocacy program to people living in public housing in the West. The program is known as SHASP in the West.

SHASP

•  Assists people who may be eligible for public housing
•  Supports new public housing tenants to achieve sustainable tenancies
•  Provides intensive support for public housing tenants avoid becoming homeless
•  Advocates and supports public housing tenants experiencing a crisis in their tenancy
•  Builds the capacity of communities of public housing tenants to participate in decisions affecting their housing
•  Facilitates equitable access to community facilities on housing estates.

Referrals to SHASP come from the Office of Housing.

Wombat provides SHASP services on an outreach basis to all areas of the western metropolitan region except Brimbank, Melton and Werribee. SHASP in these areas are provided under contract by the Salvation Army Social Housing Servicde (SASHS).
