Wombat
Housing and Support Services was formed by an amalgamation
of two housing and support services in Melbourne’s
West. Wombat Accommodation Services Group and Lanigiro
Housing Group had each been providing services
since the early 1980’s. Each was managed
by a separate Committee of Management.
In 1997 the Victorian Government changed the
way services for people experiencing homelessness
were funded and delivered. With the goal of ensuring
sustainable services to people who are homeless,
Wombat and Lanigiro embarked on a voluntary amalgamation.
The amalgamation resulted in a new organisation – Wombat
Lanigiro Housing and Support Services in 1998.
Today the organisation is known as Wombat Housing
and Support Services, founded on 25 years of
service delivery excellence.
