Program for:

• Families (Family Units)
What is provided:
• Rooming houses
» Three
rooming houses comprising 60 rooms
» One
for men in Ascot Vale, one for women in Kensington   and
one mixed in Sunshine
• Family units
» Seven long term housing units in Newport
What is the purpose:
• To provide affordable, quality housing to people in the West
Who is eligible:
• For rooming houses
» Single
adults
» Able
to live in a communal situation
» Able
to live independently
» People
on low income
» Want
to live in the suburb
» Age
criteria applies to some rooms
• For family units
» Families
» Should
be on the Office of Housing waiting list
» Capable
of independent living
» Links
to the West
What it involves:
• Rooming houses
» Rent
is set at 25% of income
» Communal
recreation spaces. Some share
 bathrooms/toilets
» Service
fee to cover utilities, cleaning, amenities &
 gardening
» All
rooms fully furnished
• Family units
» Rent
is based on market rent
» Fully
self contained
How to get into the program:
• Rooming houses

the Wombat singles program worker/s
» Complete
a referral form to determine eligibility
» Assessment
in person with the support worker/s
» Applications
are ranked in priority according to need and
 appropriateness
to vacancy
• Family Units

are rare
